A LITTLE GAS MONEY AND A WHOLE LOT OF FUN

JohnOrlowskiJohn Orlowski began his career at Kelly Supply under the UNK internship program. In 2007, after graduation, John permanently joined the Kelly Supply team in Lincoln, where he has been working in sales. Like so many KSC employees, he has an interesting story to tell about his hobby and he’s willingly shared it with us.

For those who didn’t know, John drives race cars. He’s been involved in racing since he was six years old, when he began racing Go-Karts. He did that until he was 16.

That’s when he graduated to bigger cars. Since that time he has been racing the same car, a 1931 Nash 3 Window Coupe. John says that the frame the body sits on is a 1960 Ford truck with a 1970s suspension.

This is an interest that has led to much traveling. For instance, this summer John has raced not only in his home state, but in Iowa, Kansas, and South Dakota as well.

Typically, he races every other weekend over the summer months.

John’s wife, Kristen, enjoys traveling with him. They transport the Nash on a trailer pulled by their ‘09 Dodge Ram. He’s associated with GOTRA (Good Ole Time Racing Association).

“One of neat things about this group is the payout,” John said. “We basically get paid gas money to race, and whether we win or break on the first lap, we all get paid the same.

“This helps keep the bumping and wrecking to a minimum”. John’s dad and younger brothers also have cars that race in GOTRA.

So it’s not really for the money, it’s for the fun. It makes for an interesting hobby that John and his family all enjoy together.
